Looking to Sell Your Home? Make Sure it’s Mold Free!

It’s summer and that means that more Americans will be listing their homes for sale in the coming months. Are you one of them? If so, your head is likely already swimming with a long list of tasks to complete. You have to find a realtor that isn’t swamped with other projects, and then argue back and forth before settling on an appropriate list price. Then you are forced to go through the arduous task of cleaning your house for a showing. Chances are you will have an open house or two and swarms of people will – hopefully – be passing through your house.

Unfortunately, buyers are looking for signs of negligent care, such as mold, that may ultimately deter them from purchasing a house – your house. Even the smallest sight of mold can turn an interested buyer off from making an offer on your house, because a small area of visible mold could indicate a much larger, more costly problem. Even if this is not the case with your house, why would you want to lose a potential buyer over a small patch of mold? If you’re looking to sell your home, it’s time to take a thorough look for signs of mold.

Where Does Mold Grow

Unfortunately, mold can be found growing in virtually any environment, on any surface. Mold is caused by excessive moisture accumulation on building materials, especially wood, insulation, paper and carpet. Indoors, it is found commonly in basements and bathrooms, as they are generally damp and dark. Mold can also be found in harder to see areas such as ceilings, windows, air ducts and even behind walls.

Why Mold Matters

It is important to remove mold from a house, due to the adverse health effects it can cause. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Frequent headaches
  • Allergic reactions such as sneezing, coughing or a runny nose
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Skin irritation
  • Eye irritation

You wouldn’t want to subject another family or your own, to these serious health issues – would you?

What Does Mold Remediation Look Like?

AQHI, Inc will follow a strict set of protocols to ensure safe removal of mold from your home. Upon arrival, we will create barriers by sealing doors, windows and vents with plastic sheeting to prohibit the mold from spreading to other areas of your home. We will then remove the materials, like ceiling tiles, carpet, or drywall, which are showing mold growth, and/or remove surface mold from glass, metal, vinyl or floor coverings. These areas will be washed with biocide solutions, vacuumed and sealed, if necessary. If the area is particularly moist, AQHI, Inc will also dry and dehumidify the area to protect from future mold growth.
